Grandma J's Sugar CookiesIngredients - 1/2 c. shortening (part butter) 1/2 c. sugar 1 egg 1 T. whole milk or cream 1 t. vanilla 1 1/4 c. flour 1 t. cream of tartar 1/4 t. salt 1/2 t. baking soda Mix together thoroughly the shortening, sugar, and egg. Stir in milk or cream and vanilla. Stir together flour, cream of tartar, salt, and baking soda. Then stir into the mix. Chill dough (very important - this is a very delicate dough) and roll thin. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 425 degrees until delicate brown You can frost lightly with a powdered sugar frosting, or place sugar on top before you bake them. They are delicious either way. Can double this recipe Servings - 20 cookies Prep Time - 15 minutes Cook Time - 5-7 minutes |
