1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 T. whole milk or cream
1 t. vanilla
1 1/4 c. flour
1 t. cream of tartar
1/4 t. salt
1/2 t. baking soda
Directions -
Mix together thoroughly the shortening, sugar, and egg. Stir in milk or cream and vanilla. Stir together flour, cream of tartar, salt, and baking soda. Then stir into the mix.

You can frost lightly with a powdered sugar frosting, or place sugar on top before you bake them. They are delicious either way.
