Located near the West Bottoms, just into Kansas City, Kansas, Slap’s BBQ has become a staple of what makes Kansas City BBQ so great. Starting from a competition team, the Slap’s guys took their success from the competition circuit and created a restaurant that allows everyone to try their amazing products anytime they want.
Slap’s (Squeal Like a Pig) BBQ opened in June of 2014 and started with just a few hundred pounds of meat. After running out within a few hours, they knew Slap’s was going to be a major success. As the weeks went on, they added more and more meat to the daily production finally reaching our capacity and comfort level a couple of months after opening. Slap’s is still selling out every day because they are committed cooking fresh and putting the best BBQ on the plate. Slap’s BBQ is one of the very few restaurants in Kansas City that is actively competing on the KCBS circuit throughout the year. On average they compete in 25-35 contests each season, including a number of the same competitions as The BBQ Mavens.
When visiting the restaurant, parking can be at a premium. Don’t let that deter you from stopping in to get some awesome BBQ, and take a few laps if you don’t have any luck! These burnt ends were as great as they look. Also, every one of the sides I have tried have been fantastic, especially the hushpuppies. Be sure to try some variety with one of their sampler plates, as you won’t want to choose between all of these great types of BBQ!
