Best “DAM” BBQ Competition
Located at Smithville Lake, the Best “DAM” BBQ Competition is a KCBS sanctioned event. Hosted by the Temperance Masonic Lodge No. 438, this event also serves as a fundraiser for them to help those in need in the area. To learn more about this competition, be sure to visit their website.
2018 Competition
The 2018 competition was The BBQ Maven’s 2nd competition on the KCBS circuit, and we did not know what to expect. Coming into this event, we had high hopes of producing some quality meat and hopefully placing in at least one meat category. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas. During the day on Friday, it was a high of around 70 degrees, and overnight we had torrential rains, wind, and lows hit around 30 degrees. This weather shift had a real impact on our cook and caused our finished product to struggle as we had no idea how to cook with these conditions. Pair all of that with almost having our tent and gear blow away at 2 am, and we were lucky to turn in anything at all.
2019 Competition
The 2019 competition produced a much better weather experience for us, as it could get much worse. We also were much more prepared for the competition and had a plan to make sure we had everything ready to go. Because of this, our results improved drastically from 2018! Although we didn’t have any calls, we were happy with our performance and look forward to continuing to improve on future competitions!
