Grandma J’s Sugar Cookies

A great sugar cookie recipe perfect for the holidays.

Ingedients
 ½ cup shortening (part butter)
 ½ cup sugar
 1 egg
 1 tbsp whole milk or cream
 1 tsp vanilla
 1 ¼ cups flour
 1 tsp cream of tartar
 ¼ tsp salt
 ½ tsp baking soda
Directions

Mix together thoroughly the shortening, sugar, and egg. Stir in milk or cream and vanilla. Stir together flour, cream of tartar, salt, and baking soda. Then stir into the mix.

Chill dough (very important - this is a very delicate dough) and roll thin. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 425 degrees until delicate brown

You can frost lightly with a powdered sugar frosting, or place sugar on top before you bake them. They are delicious either way.

Maven Tip: You can double this recipe if you want more cookies!
