Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Great Grandma Helen's Oatmeal Raisin cookies!

Ingredients
 2 cups sugar
 1 cup shortening
 2 eggs
 2 cups flour
 1 tsp baking soda
 1 tsp salt
 1 tsp vanilla extract
 1 ⅓ cups oatmeal
 1 cup raisin
  cup sugar (for dipping the cookie)
Directions

Cream the shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt to the mixture and stir. Stir in the oatmeal, vanilla, and raisins. Chill the dough

Roll into small balls, and dip into the reserve sugar before placing on the greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. The cookies will "crackle" after removed from the over. Do NOT overbake these cookies!

The recipe can be modified to use mini M&M's, chocolate chips, and/or chopped nuts.
