How to Keep Onions from Burning

When cooking onions on the stovetop, people can easily lose track of time, and see their onions burn. The easiest way to keep anything (onions included) from burning on the stovetop is to put a lid on it, which creates a steam vacuum. Also, making sure to keep the heat low when you are trying to carmelize onions will help! If you cannot find a lid, or have a pan that doesn’t have a lid with it, you can also put a pizza pan or baking pan on top to help create a lid.

Also, try throwing salt on the onions to prevent burning. The salt will draw water away from the onion itself, then the moisture from the water on the pan will slow the onions from burning as quickly. Remember that vegetables like onions, fruit, meat and, fish have quite a large content of water, so you can utilize that water to help you cook.
